Last year showed me more clearly than ever that diversifying your income streams (aka having lots of irons in the fire) is more important than ever. For many freelancers, 2024 was an absolute bin-fire, and 2025 isn’t shaping up to be that much better. Looking at where my income comes from is incredibly revealing for me - it takes away some of the messy emotions that we can feel about money and work as freelancers, and shows me the metrics.
Looking at the data shows me the reality of how things are, not just how they feel.
Knowing what work has paid my bills the most - even if it isn’t work I’ve always been singing and dancing my way through - makes me feel gratitude for it. Having a stable income is never something I’ve taken for granted as a freelancer, and especially not in this economy. Similarly, understanding how other income streams are growing year on year (like my coaching for freelancers, for instance) fills me with pride and shows me that my hard work is paying off.
