You may like the book Wanderers (history of women walking). All these women through history, writing, thinking, and finding more agency through walking. I liked it!
i feel so much better when i get in my steps too! i noticed a huge difference when i traveled to hong kong and easily got in 18k steps 🙌 i’m so grateful for whoever invented a desk walking pad 🙏 i wholeheartedly believe humans are not meant to be sedentary
Fellow walker here! I love walking, but have a hard time just walking, if that makes sense. I always have a secondary activity going on.
On the streets or trails, I’ll put in headphones and listen to music, a podcast, or maybe an audiobook. At home, I use my walking pad and partner walking with reading a physical book, watching TV, making voice notes, and even eating! (All that wouldn’t be possible or socially appropriate for the streets!)
I love that you strive for 20k. My daily goal is 10k, but you’ve inspired me to pump those numbers up! ⬆️
My favourite walking hour is at sunset, when the sky turns from blue to pink and then to dark. The trees starts to flow with more freedom with the night winds, and everything is more pacific. Where I live there are some old streets with antique houses, parks and a lovely bookshop where there is always people discussing literature. Sounds like a fairytale and it is. I have already the habit of walking, but after reading this I'll make and extra effort to go everyday and give my thoughts the same liberty that the trees seems to have. Thank you and hello from Brazil!
Walking is one of life’s great joy’s especially in nature. I had a minor stroke almost two years ago. One of the major changes I made was getting a daily walk in. My life permits a more modest 10,000 a day but I make that almost every day and I get 20,000 plus in at the weekends. You are never too old to start walking and it’s free. It gets harder as the days get shorter and the weather colder but I will be out rain and shine. Having read your article I am tempted to try and up my daily distance. Thank you
I feel like the only thing that gets in my way when it comes to high step count is my footwear - mine all seem to max out at about 10k steps. Any recommendations for shoes that go the distance?

Ooh I’m thinking of trying one of those walking pads!

Oh totally I don’t “just walk” like I don’t need to be alone with my thoughts thanks 😂😂. Glad I inspired you!

Oh Aeron I love this so much! Sounds beautiful. Say hi to that Brazilian sunset for me.
Maybe this is the life change I need. Simply … walking. Hmmmm…. Thanks for writing the article. Very encouraging.
So glad it was helpful!
Oh my god, this is inspirational! Maybe not, 20,000 steps but 10 to 12,000 is looking hopeful.
Love that! And yeah definitely doesn’t have to be 20K for it to feel worthwhile

I really love your attitude to walking - it truly is such a joy

So my most reliable ones are Asics- they just seem to go and go
i love that you emphasized increasing steps steadily. Going from 3k -> 7k steps a day consistently will still yield amazing benefits
I get 10k in daily but 20k is so hard when you don’t live in a city or have tons of time to do it. So impressed with your dedication
That’s amazing already - and yes I have so much walking (and time) built in
